Snorkelling and Skin Diving

Skin diving is snorkeling while making breath-hold dives to observe aquatic life, up close and personal. It’s a great way to explore the underwater world when you’re not able to scuba dive or if scuba diving just isn’t your thing.

We offer both snorkelling sessions and the PADI Skin Diver course, in a pool or in the sea. The PADI Skin Diver course teaches you how to enjoy watching life below the surface and comfortably venture underwater for short visits, and a snorkelling session is more informal, whilst you will enjoy a full safety briefing, learn snorkelling skills with full instruction and supervision, there is no pressure to leave the surface of the water.

To enroll in a PADI Skin Diver course or snorkelling session, you must be at least 8 years old. You need adequate swimming skills and comfort in the water. No prior experience is required.

What will you learn?

The PADI Skin Diver course teaches you about:

  • How to choose, adjust and use skin diving equipment.

  •  Basic safety guidelines for being in and around the water.

  • Snorkeling and skin diving techniques including checking buoyancy, surface swimming, clearing water from your snorkel and performing effortless surface dives.

  • Going on an optional skin dive at a local dive site.

Family Fun
Snorkelling is a great adventure that the whole family can enjoy, minimum age 8 and reasonable fitness required.
You will need to bring your swimming things, a towel and warm clothes for after.
All snorkellers will be required to complete a medical form.
Under 16's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What gear will you use?

The PADI Skin Diver course teaches you how to use basic snorkeling equipment including a mask, snorkel, fins, snorkeling vest, exposure protection like a wet suit and dive weights as needed.

Hate the Cold? Don't worry, so do we!

No-one likes getting cold and uncomfortable, us included. So here is what we do to reduce getting chilly and increase comfort before, during and after your dive.

  • Top of the range dive suits: We provide 8mm semi-dry suits to wear instead of wetsuits. You will be cosy wrapped in neoprene, with neck, wrist and ankle seals and a double-lined zip to keep the water from flushing in and out and lowering your body temperature.

  • Boots, Hoods and Gloves: Keeps your extremities warm which increases your core temperature.

  • No changing in the cold wind by the road side. Our custom-made trailer has a changing room for privacy and ensures protection from the elements. With seating and a handy table you can log your dives in comfort.

  • Hot drinks post-dive. Who would say no to a warming drink and a biscuit after your dive.

So, with all these comforts, there is nothing between you and a good day out.

The PADI Skin Diving course & snorkelling sessions
are available in the sea or a swimming pool.

If you'd like to try snorkelling in the pool rather than the sea, that is no problem. We offer both one-on-one sessions and group sessions so we can arrange whatever suits you best.

At £30 per person, this is a great introduction to snorkelling in the warmth and comfort of a pool. We will cover exactly the same skills as we would in a sea session. Wetsuits will not be neccessary. Please wear shorts and t-shirt instead.

Snorkelling in the sea: If you'd like to snorkel in the sea, your session will take place from the shore, not a boat. The reason for this is so we are shallow enough to see all the best bits. The shallows (0m - 15m) are the best in terms of light penetration and marine life and cater perfectly for all abilities - from brand new beginners to those with a little more confidence and experience. We select our locations based on weather forecast, surface conditions and skill / experience level. On the North Coast, we are lucky to enjoy spectacular scenery above and below the waves.

Red Duck’s PADI Instructors are friendly, professional and cannot wait to share their love of the amazing underwater world with you. And if you have any questions about snorkelling, skin diving or scuba, we are more than willing to chat. Just get in touch!
